Prisoners in many camps were told that they had to be shaven for reasons of hygiene and cleanliness. Shown here in Treblinka are women, some carrying children in their arms, waiting at the "barber shop" on their way to the gas chamber. It is not known how many perished in Treblinka. Estimates range from 700,000 to over 1,000,000 - over 300,000 Jews from Warsaw. There were less than 100 known survivors of Treblinka. |
